We review your dental and medical history, assess your gum health, and note any areas of concern such as bleeding, recession, or pocketing.

What does a hygiene appointment include?
A professional clean (scale and polish), removal of plaque and tartar buildup, and personalised advice on your brushing and flossing technique.
How often should I see the hygienist?
Most patients benefit from a visit every 3–6 months. Your dentist or hygienist will recommend a schedule based on your oral health.
Is a hygiene clean painful?
For most people, no. If you have gum sensitivity, there may be mild discomfort. We can adjust our approach to keep you comfortable.
What is a scale and polish?
Scaling removes hardened tartar (calculus) from your teeth and below the gumline. Polishing removes surface stains and leaves a smooth finish.
Can hygiene appointments help with bad breath?
Yes. Bad breath is often caused by bacteria in plaque and tartar. A professional clean significantly reduces these bacteria.
What is air polishing?
A high-pressure mix of air, water, and fine powder used to remove stains and biofilm quickly and gently. We use it as part of our hygiene service.
Can the hygienist help with gum disease?
Yes. Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) often improves with regular professional cleaning and improved home care.
Do I need a dentist referral to see the hygienist?
No. You can book a hygiene appointment directly.
How much does a hygiene appointment cost?

Dr. Millie is kind, attentive and extremely professional. She goes above and beyond for her patients! I first visited the practice just under a year ago for an emergency tooth crack. Dr. Millie helped fix my tooth quickly and calmly and did excellent work on my tooth. She followed up with a thorough examination of my teeth, supporting me over the past year with fillings and cleanings (the best cleaning I’ve ever had!!).
