Reclaim your oral health from Gum Disease

Restoring your oral health is a carefully planned process over months or years to stabilize and reverse gum disease.

After a referral from your own dentist (or an initial assessment by our Principal Dentist) here’s what to expect during your gum disease (periodontal) treatment with our specilaised team.

  • Full periodontal examination (initial Consultation) to assess gum inflammation, gum recession, loss of bone and periodontal disease
  • X-rays and other diagnostic tests
  • Discussion of diagnosis, treatment options and your desired outcome
  • A custom treatment plan and report is prepared and tailored to your needs, including timelines and costs
  • Perio treatments can be completed under Local Anaesthetic
  • Treatments can be surgical or non-surgical, depending on your needs
  • The first step is often a deep cleaning of the root surfaces below the gum level (subgingival root debridement) to reduce inflammation and pockets depth.
  • EMS Airflow Hygiene appointments.
  • Perio-cleaning appointments.
  • Aftercare guidance to help maintain your oral health.

Periodontics FAQ

What is Periodontitis?

More often referred to as gum disease, periodontitis is one of the most chronic diseases that people can suffer from.  Left untreated it leads to receding gums and the loss of bone that supports teeth.  Continued and regular treatment is essential before the bone loss results in teeth falling out.

The build-up of bacterial plaque on the teeth causes gums to become inflamed and bleed easily.  Without daily cleaning the build-up of plaque leads to gingivitis (the early and reversible form of gum disease).  If left untreated, gingivitis will lead to chronic (permanent) periodontitis.

We use modern techniques and local anaesthetic to ensure treatment is as comfortable as possible. Most patients report only mild discomfort.

Depending on the stage of treatment you can expect each appointments to last between 60-90 minutes.  The course of treatment to stabilise the disease can last several months, and chronic cases will require permanent monitoring.

Our team will create a personalised treatment plan for you which will include regular appointments and monitoring.  As part of this routine we encourage regular gentle and deep-cleaning hygiene appointments using EMS Airflow.
