Porcelain Dental Veneer FAQ

What are porcelain dental veneers?

Veneers provide a new surface to improve the appearance of one or more teeth.

The ultra-thin, porcelain shells are placed on the front of the teeth in order to enhance their shape, shade and symmetry.

Each veneer is meticulously designed by Dr Millie using advanced smile design technology to ensure a beautifully natural result.

Veneers create a beautiful smile while strengthening teeth that are worn, chipped or uneven.

They allow us to address multiple concerns at once with elegant, long-lasting results.

With good care, porcelain veneers typically last 10–20 years, often longer. Their longevity depends on oral hygiene, lifestyle habits and regular dental check-ups.

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene, attending routine dental visits, wearing a nightguard if you grind your teeth, and avoiding very hard foods all help protect your veneers.

Limiting staining drinks like coffee and red wine as well as tobacco will also help to keep them bright and fresh.

Over many years, veneers may show minor wear or require replacement. Updating a veneer is a simple, comfortable procedure, and the underlying tooth remains largely unchanged.

We practice minimally invasive dentistry. Many veneers require little to no tooth reduction, and when shaping is needed, it’s usually just 0.2–0.5mm – similar to thinning a fingernail. Our goal is always to preserve your natural tooth structure.

Porcelain is naturally stain-resistant and maintains its brightness beautifully. Any surface staining caused by plaque or lifestyle habits can be easily removed during routine hygiene appointments.

Veneers are exceptionally strong, but – like natural teeth – they can chip under excessive force. Avoid biting hard objects, wear a nightguard if you clench or grind, and protect your teeth during contact sports.

If a veneer does break, it can typically be repaired or replaced with ease.

Veneers may be ideal if you wish to improve teeth that are discoloured, worn, uneven, chipped, small, gappy or misaligned. In some cases, Invisalign may be recommended first to optimise alignment and bite before placing veneers.
